Why sail Menorca
The most eastern of the Balearic Islands, Menorca is the island of contrasts. Its culture bears the mark of a long sequence of battles and dominions; its natural landscape is a declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserve; and its holiday rhythm and food culture are entirely its own. All of it is topped by mild temperatures through the summer months, brought in by the tramontana wind — which is exactly why Menorca is a favourite for sailing in July and August, when the other islands are at their hottest and busiest.
Our Menorca charters start from Mahón on the east coast — one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean — or from Ciutadella in the west. The two bases open up different routes, and the southern coast between them can be sailed in a single day if your yacht and the conditions allow.

Two ways to sail Menorca
From Mahón: begin with an evening ashore, strolling the seafront and taking in the harbour as the sun sets. Once at sea, set a course for Biniparraitx cove to moor and swim, then on to the Coves anchorage to admire its rocky cliffs. From there the south coast unfolds westward — cala after cala — towards Ciutadella.
From Ciutadella: the town’s privileged position gives you several sailing routes to choose from according to wind direction and sea state. Depending on your yacht, the southern coast to Mahón can be done in a day; most crews prefer to spread it over two or three nights and take the calas slowly.
The north: sail north to discover the Albufera des Grau Natural Park, with its unique landscape, cliffs, wildlife and archaeological attractions. Past Cape Favaritx, moor and get ready to dive — the tranquil waters of these small open coves house several sunken wrecks waiting to be explored.
Practical notes
- Season: April to October. Unusually for the Balearics, July and August are prime here — the tramontana keeps temperatures mild and the island stays quiet. Yachts run Saturday to Saturday in peak season.
- Wind: The tramontana from the north is the island’s defining wind; the north coast is exposed to it, the south coast sheltered. Plan overnight stops accordingly and check the forecast for each leg.
- Diving: Wrecks off the north-east coast past Cape Favaritx; ask about tanks and a dive guide when you book.
- Bareboat: An ICC or equivalent licence and appropriate experience. No licence? Choose a Local Skipper or a fully crewed Hidden Secrets charter.
- Getting here: Menorca airport is 10 minutes from Mahón; Ciutadella is around 45 minutes by road.
